Living a New Year 2015

“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.” – Clarence Budington Kelland

Everyone seems to be making resolutions for the New Year, and while I have goals for 2015, I find myself thinking more about the fact that my son is growing up too fast.

So, what I would really like to do is…

  • Press “Pause” and just enjoy this time.
  • Give him everything he wants.
  • Capture every moment.

Instead, I see him growing more-and-more every day. I see my facial expressions in his furrowed brows, and I don’t want him to be like me. But, I also known that each of us is shaped by our experiences and influences. My son watches everything I say and do.

All we can do is live (the best we know how). Our lives teach them so much more than we know (but I also know that I learn from my son as well). He’s tenacious and smart. He notices everything and doesn’t forget. He’s kind and funny.

Perhaps it’s more about continuing to learn and grow, as we continue the journey together. As Hal Borland said:

“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.”
