I love being a member of the Fandango Family and because I am a part of this great program I was able to go with my family to the opening weekend of Goosebumps with Jack Black. Seeing that my whole family are fans of both R.L. Stine and the Goosebumps books as well as being a fan of Jack Black, we were really interested in seeing what the movie would be like and we were not disappointed in the least.
The movie was very original and we loved how they actual incorporated the actual author R.L. Stine into the movie itself (and if you watch closely you will even see the author himself too).
Jack Black does an amazing job at portraying R.L. Stine and you will be entertained from beginning to end. There are twists and turns and so many of the monsters that you will have met through all of the written Goosebumps stories.
The makeup work on the movie was remarkable and while many of the monsters were CGI, you still will get lost in the action, laughs and scares (though not too many).
I brought both of my girls to this and they loved the movie. My youngest was a little scared at times, and to be honest Slappy the mannequin was definitely very creepy and not something that I would want to meet myself.
All-in-all this was a great movie that was great fun whether you are a R.L. Stine fan or not!
About the Movie
Jack Black stars as acclaimed Goosebumps writer R.L. Stine in this feature-film adaptation of the popular YA book series. A teenager named Zach (Dylan Minnette) reluctantly moves from New York City to the quiet town of Greendale, MD, where he quickly realizes that his reclusive new neighbor is in fact the horror author of the Goosebumps series. Zach learns Stine‘s identity when he is drawn to the writer’s daughter Hannah (Odeya Rush), but soon discovers the dangerous secret inside their home — the creatures from Stine‘s famous stories are real, and are kept locked away inside their original manuscripts. After an accident frees the monsters, Zach, Hannah, and their nerdy pal Champ (Ryan Lee) must work together with Stine to save their town from destruction. Rob Letterman directed this family-friendly adventure. ~ Daniel Gelb, Rovi
